(2016) Westerner gelding
5yo Escapeandevade showed a marked improvement in his latest run at Castletown Geoghegan where he can be picked up in the race replay last of all travelling away and jumping all over the back of his rivals No4 in Green with White sleeves.
Whilst it’s not the best quality video given the big hedges in the way and the driving rain, when his jockey allowed, he can be spotted clearly scything through the field to reach the leaders with the minimum of fuss mainly having to take the wide path around them. They were strung out all over Westmeath come the end and it was a good run that promised more so I bought him on spec at Doncaster Sales a fortnight later.
He is by Westerner who’s progeny only improve and this chap looks no exception physically. His dam is a half-sister to Dix Villez who was placed in a Cork National, Munster National, Galway Plate and won around the Cheltenham Cross Country track so he is definitely one for fences in the future over a trip.
Point to point website said the following of his run:
‘ESCAPEANDEVADE (IRE) is a strong sort by Westerner. Patiently-ridden here, he was seen to much better effect on this occasion as he came from off the pace to emerge a clear second best. He should easily go one better on this evidence at the very least and he could also make his mark in handicap company on the racetrack.’
That race has worked out very well. The winner was a fast finishing third in his Restricted (Winner of One) the third won next time out and was sold for £65,000 at Cheltenham, the fourth was runner-up in a point only 6 days later and then ran very well in a decent looking bumper dominated by Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott, the fifth was beaten only a length in his next point, the sixth was only beaten 2 lengths second next time and the seventh also looked likely to be a winner or at least second next time out when falling.
The horse has arrived with me in my yard, is now for sale, has a UK hunter certificate and entered to run in a point to point.
Update! Won his point for us, was sold straight away and then won over hurdles first time out for new connections.
