Hardy Du Seuil – SOLD

2017 bay gelding Coastal Path x Pervenche Du Seuil (Lucky Dream)

Hardy Du Seuil is a 4yo AQPS gelding from France who had been on my radar since his first appearance in an AQPS bumper for 3yo’s right back in May when we had no racing in the UK. Firstly because he wasn’t quite 3 years old at the time being a late May foal and the eye-catching booking of French Champion flat jockey, Pierre-Charles Boudot. This would be akin to Dettori turning out for a Huntingdon bumper although Boudot’s family did have a share in breeding him as they did with Defi Du Seuil!

He came second.  The fourth that day, has come to England and already has winning form including the class 2 juvenile hurdle at Ascot in March. The fifth won a bumper next time and then again on hurdles debut in Auteuil by 17 lengths so you can imagine what they were asking for him! The sixth and eighth horses also won since.

His next run in a bumper was 3 months later at the same venue, same trip and it was the same result, runner-up, except this was more truly run and he was closing hard at the line.

After that run, his trainer sent him away to be schooled so he could run him in the Prix Isopani a month later (a race traditionally targeted by trainers with a prodigious talented jumpers). Unfortunately his time away had not been well spent given he never looked comfortable. The third that day is with Paul Nicholls and was placed in the Grade 1 Finale Hurdle and the Fred Winter, the second has won in England and the fourth won twice in France.

This lad’s trainer decided to give him a big break over the winter and start again with his jumping. He returned at Fontainebleau on the 23rd of Feb and he looked the complete opposite, he made-all at a good pace, with his big ears locking on to each hurdle as they approached. His jumping was faultless and he moved impressively through the gears in the straight, although having to visibly slow down for the last hurdle showing there is lots left in the tank and the time was fast.

It is also worth noting that one of Coastal Path’s best jumpers, Saint Roi, (JP McManus’ County Hurdle Winner) was runner-up in a bumper before also being beaten at Auteuil as a 3yo and the cherry on the cake is that he is from the family of Silviniaco Conti. Also on the page, Eglantine Du Seuil was bred by the Boudot’s and was Grade 1 placed behind Honeysuckle for Willie Mullins.

(unfortunately the second bumper is not covered by ATR)

He is a tall horse 16”1 + and sure to be good over fences in the future. He passed his vetting and is in my yard for viewing.
