(2020) New Approach x Tea Blossom
This 4yo gelding has all the looks of a successful future chaser standing at 16:2 out of 97 rated flat mare Tea Blossom who was a winner in France and Group 3 placed over 12f at Newbury in Soft ground. It is a proper Juddmonte middle-distance family.
He is by New Approach, the joint highest rated racehorse in the world 2008, and sire of Grade 1 hurdler Pied Piper. Not obvious on this page is that Jeff Kidder (Winner of the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival and the 4yo Champion Hurdle at Punchestown for Noel Meade) is out of an unraced full-sister to Tea Blossom.
An added angle to this page is that four mares out of the third dam all produced Black Type jumpers, one is Main Fact (Won 9 races in a row for David Pipe including the Grade 3 Betfair Stayers Handicap Hurdle) and not even listed on this page, New Agenda, out of Prove, was also by New Approach!
This gelding was sourced from the Land Rover Sale in June. I bought him on-spec, took him home to be broken-in and he has thrived ever since. He was turned-out for the summer here at Webb Hill Farm and always catches the eye in the field. It is well worth watching the Loose School video.
Update January: He has been with Will Biddick since September, now named Fresh Perspective and ready to run in a point-to-point.
Update January 28th: He won his point-to-point at Milbourne St Andrew, Dorset, in great style.
He made a big impression on his debut in my colours where he became the first four year old of this season’s crop to score either side of the Irish Sea!
He had a school round Chipley Park only six days before with twelve of Will Biddick’s babies and took the eye but given this lad’s age, size and scope, he had no business being ready for a race never mind winning.
Will rode him quietly confidently from off the pace and he travelled his way into contention with a big move around the outside after the ditch. He jumped to the front plenty early enough and as soon as he had seen off one persistent challenger in the form of a €60k Walk In The Park store, another rival came, but a good jump at the last sealed it and this April born 4yo had enough in hand to win nicely.
