Kalyptra – SOLD
2016 bay gelding - Fair Mix x Lovely Origny
Kalyptra is a 5yo French bred gelding and a graduate of the Land Rover Sale who made his debut in a point-to-point at Knockmullen finishing second to a horse trained by Gordon Elliott (who has been sold for a six-figure sum since and franked the form with a good second in an Irish bumper). Kalyptra gained a rating of 88 in the process which is high for a runner-up. He is by Fair Mix who sired the likes of Simonsig, Southfield Stone and Alfa Mix.
The form has a real solid look about it with placed horses with experience coming into the race and the form has already worked out since with the 4th and 5th closely chasing home Grangeclare West who made £430,000 at the sales. On the face of it, all this makes Kalyptra look great value. He hails from a small Wexford yard with 5 horses and his trainer has had no winner for over 18 months.
Irish Point to Point website said the following:
‘A competitive nine-runner four-year-old maiden which was a slowly run affair. KALYPTRA (FR) made almost all the running here under Shane O’Rourke, though he ultimately went down by two lengths. The son of Fair Mix is related to the 12-time winner Von Origny. A €20,000 Land Rover Sale purchase, the Pierce Power-owned and trained gelding should progress well to the track.’
He settled in front and jumped brilliantly bar one slight error putting in some huge leaps and taking lengths out of the winner at most flights. In hindsight he probably would have gone a little quicker as he and the Elliott trained horse quickened together and finished well clear of the rest.
The horse has arrived with me, is now for sale and can be viewed in my yard.
