2023 Summer Sale Season
May Store Sale Tattersalls – Fairyhouse
The 2023 restock of 3yo stores is complete! We have horses bought at all five of the premium National Hunt stores sales across England and Ireland. First up, Tattersalls May Sale, a short flight over the Irish sea to get the season started at Fairyhouse. With just under 250 3yo’s offered over the two day sale there was no time for messing about. After a day of viewing it was time for sale day. The sale started at 10am so we had enough time for a few second looks, just to make sure we where happy with the horses we wanted to follow through the ring. After a long day of sales we managed to pick up three standout 3yo’s, coming away with a Getaway, Harzand and the top lot of the sale which was a stunning French bred by Cokoriko, consigned by the Bleahen brothers (Liss House).

Doncaster Spring Stores & H.I.T Sale
We travelled north to sunny Doncaster for Goffs Spring Stores and H.I.T sale to view a great selection of 3yo offered over the first two days and the H.I.T over the following two days. It was a busy sale! It was not long until the first of many store horses for the sale was knocked down to Tom Malone Bloodstock with a total of six horses being picked up over the two days of stores, the majority going to Paul Nicholls and Jamie Snowden. This trend did not stop for the H.I.T sale, with a range of form horses on offer over another two days there was something for everyone which allowed us to purchase a further nine form horses for an array of clients. A long but successful trip before getting ready for the two biggest store sales of the year with the Goffs Arkle Sale followed by the Tattersalls Derby Sale.

Goffs Arkle Sale
We headed to the Kildare Paddocks of Goffs Ireland for the Arkle sale (formerly the Land Rover Sale). There was over 400 stores on show for the two days which led us to view over 300 of those 400 horses on offer. After two days of viewing horses the list had been narrowed down leaving around 30 horses for second looks. From here it was very difficult to knock horses off the list as the standard of animal on offer was extremely high but unfortunately we can’t buy them all. We picked the best from the best and when sale day came we made sure to get involved. We were able to buy five on day one with Team Ditcheat taking four, which left us in high sprits going into day 2 even with the heavy rain coming in over night. We made an impression early on day two, purchasing our most expensive store of the sale with ‘Krocodile Rock’ (lot 345). He is a gorgeous son of Jeu St Eloi, out of Black type mare Joly Nelsa, two of her Progeny already being of Black Type status. This French bred gelding was not one to miss out on. We weren’t finished there as we managed to get our hands on another two geldings, one by It’s Gino and the other by Well Chosen both being purchased for Paul Nicholls Racing. We also purchased a son of New Approach, who took the eye with his big stature along with his lengthy stride and easy effortless movement. He has settled in nicely here at Webb Hill farm after being broken-in and you can find out more about him in ‘Horses for Sale’

Tattersalls Derby Sale
On to the next, with just short of 400 stores offered again over the two day sale at Fairyhouse, the standard was on a par if not slightly higher than any other store sale so far this year. It’s a sale we were excited about from the moment catalogue research began, and when we got Fairyhouse it was great to see the animals matching their pedigrees. Once again we went through each barn thoroughly looking at the the 3 year old’s conformation and movement to crush the shortlist down to the top crops in the sale. There was a lot to like! When sale day came around it wasn’t long until the first document of purchase was handed over to Tom Malone Bloodstock with a son of It’s Gino being knocked down to Tom Malone/Jamie Snowden. With the half -brother (Passing Well) already giving Jamie success and continuing to do so, it was a must-have purchase. As the sale continued through the day, the tally kept increasing with a total of five stores after day one, three going to Paul Nicholls, his pick of the day being a beautiful Walk in the Park gelding, out of Youngborogal who has already produced two black type jumpers, in Maria’s Rock and Howyabud. So with a strong page and the animal to go with it, we had to have him. We also managed to pick one up to head back to Webb Hill Farm, a gorgeous son of Doyen who is a half-brother to Harry Senior.
Then we rolled on to day two, where again we got off to a good start as we picked up another Walk In The Park, although it was a stunning filly this time, with great size along with a lovely stride. We kept on going through the day picking up another two for Paul Nicholls, both geldings, one by Authorized and the other by Flemensfirth, both well sized 3yo’s heading to Ditcheat. Once again at the end of the sale we manged to pick up a late lot to bring back to Webb Hill in a gorgeous Ivanhowe gelding already named Kador Des Obeaux (find out more on Horses for Sale). Another successful trip to Ireland purchasing a total of nine stores in total over the two days.

Arqana Summer Sale
A two-day sale in early July at Deauville saw us purchase two, both going to Jamie Snowden, a proven 3yo by Toronado called Torneo alongside a late wildcard called Fresh Kiss who is a lovely 4yo daughter of Zarak who has already proven herself over a distance. As ever the culinary delights, the weather and the wine make the trip that little bit special and worth 2 nights on the bone-shaking ferry from Southampton!

Tattersalls July & Summer Sale (Newmarket)
A long week spent at Newmarket for Tattersalls July Sale where we managed to pick up a proven Flat horse called Danger Alert for George Baker Racing, this 3yo son of Ardad has proven himself over 5 & 6 furlongs so will hopefully bring success for his new connections. Just a week later we were back in Newmarket for the Summer Sale (formerly Ascot Sale), where we struck again for Charlie Pike and Gary Gillies to pick up another proven flat horse Letmelivemylife. They are building a nice string of flat horses, unproven and ready to race.

Tattersalls Ireland July Store sale
Another trip on the Ryanair shuttle to Fairyhouse from Bristol airport where judging by the queues at security, the kids summer holidays were in full swing. The final store sale of the year and our final store bought this season which was a wildcard added to the sale. This Hillstar gelding was a standout for us, a well sized scopey 3yo with a lovely rangy stride out of a Black type mare Annamatopoeia with more black type status all the way down the page. He was delivered to Tim Vaughan’s yard in South Wales.
Another great summer of sales, a total of 26 horses bought at store sales between May and July. Now looking forward to this year’s jump season and how the next crop comes along.
